On this episode, Dr. Eli Jones shares strategies for overcoming “Goliaths” in the business world and living in a “victory groove” as Christian business professionals.

Dr. Eli Jones is a first-generation college graduate who became dean of three flagship business schools (Texas A&M, University of Arkansas, and Louisiana State University).   

He currently serves as a professor of marketing at Texas A&M University and has received Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association’s Sales Special Interest Group. He’s a co-author of Selling ASAP and Strategic Sales Leadership: Breakthrough Thinking for Breakthrough Results 

He worked in sales and sales management for Quaker Oats, Nabisco, and Frito Lay prior to entering higher education. 

He’s the author of the new book, Run Toward Your Goliaths, which is about how he and his wife overcame what seemed to be insurmountable challenges as they rose from poverty to positions of influence.

Wallace Henley served 18 years as a teaching pastor at Houston's Second Baptist Church and is the founder of Belhaven University's Master of Ministry Leadership Degree. 

In 1973, the Associated Press awarded Henley for his coverage of the civil rights movement. He worked as an aide in the Nixon White House and as a congressional staffer.  

A columnist for The Christian Post, the world's largest Christian daily newspaper, Wallace is the author of more than 25 books.  

His latest book is titled, Who Will Rule the Coming ‘Gods’? The Looming Spiritual Crisis of Artificial Intelligence. 

Wallace has been married to his wife, Irene, for 60 years.

On this episode, Dr. Lenny Peters shares his journey of faith as he grew Bethany Medical Center from a single clinic to the largest independent medical group in North Carolina.

Dr. Peters is renowned in North Carolina as the founder of a revolutionary medical network, a bank for the underserved, a cutting-edge research facility, and a world-class charity foundation, as well as an accomplished, caring physician.  

In 1987, he founded the Bethany Medical Center in High Point, North Carolina, which has grown from a single clinic to the largest independent medical group in the state, with 65 healthcare providers and 550 employees serving 1,000 patients from all walks of life daily.  

He is also the founder and CEO of Peters Medical Research and Peters Development, and served as the founding director of Bank of North Carolina, later becoming part of Pinnacle Bank. Preston has more than two decades of upper-level management experience, including as director of franchise leadership at The Coca-Cola Company. He has also worked for The Hershey Company, Dale Carnegie Training, Ralston Purina, and AmSouth Bank. 

In addition, Preston is a minority shareholder and small-business owner of Numerica Corporation, an air, missile, and space defense company based in Fort Collins, Colorado. He serves on the board of directors and as corporate secretary. 

Preston is a certified John Maxwell Team coach, speaker, and trainer. 

He served on a Young Life committee, was an elder and member of Fellowship Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, was a facilitator for Christian Leadership Concepts, and serves at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Preston holds an MBA from Samford University and a BS in management from Colorado State University. 

His corporate work has been recognized through many awards such as the Dale Carnegie Sales Talk Champion award; The Hershey Company’s President’s Cup, a coveted national sales award that Preston won twice; and The Coca-Cola Company’s Woodruff Cup, a global top performance award.

Peter is Director of Faith in Business at Westminster College; a Fellow of the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology in Cambridge; a Research Associate of the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide; and a Doctoral Supervisor at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies.

Previously he was Director of Transforming Business, a research and development project at the University of Cambridge focused on the interface of business, faith, and development.

Peter's focus is on the moral and spiritual dimensions of entrepreneurial business and their role in business performance and human development. He is particularly interested in the social impact of Christianity and entrepreneurship when they converge.

Much of Peter's work is inspired and informed by his secondary research focus: the ideas of the great statesman, thinker, and social entrepreneur Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920), whose influence continues to grow around the world.

David W. Gill has served as a seminary or business school professor of ethics for over 40 years. He was also the inaugural Mockler-Phillips Professor of Workplace Theology & Business Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he was also Director of the Mockler Center for Faith & Ethics in the Workplace.

Prior to this, he served on the faculties of New College Berkeley (1977-90), North Park University (1992-2001) and St. Mary’s College (2004-2010).

He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA 1968), San Francisco State University (MA 1971), and University of Southern California (PhD 1979).

He is the author of nine books including a two-volume introduction to Christian ethics: Becoming Good: Building Moral Character and Doing Right: Practicing Ethical Principles (InterVarsity, 2000 & 2004) and a general market business ethics book, It’s About Excellence: Building Ethically Healthy Organizations (Wipf & Stock, 2008/2011).

His latest book is Workplace Discipleship 101: A Primer.

He was raised in the Plymouth Brethren, ordained at Allen Temple Baptist Church (Oakland CA) and is a member of Solano Community Church (Albany CA). He has served as Interim Pastor at University Covenant Church (Davis CA) and Trinitarian Congregational Church (Wayland MA) and has been guest preacher or speaker for many churches and campus fellowships over the past 50 years. He has been married to Lucia (Paulson) since 1967. They are the parents of two and grandparents of six.

Dr. Rick Martinez is the Assoc. Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs and a Professor of Business Administration in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at North Greenville University. Prior to coming to NGU, Dr. Martinez served in numerous faculty and administrative roles at Baylor University, Houston Baptist University, and Oklahoma Baptist University, as well as Assistant VP for Academic Affairs at Charleston Southern University.

He is published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Management, California Management Review, Journal of Business Research, Business Horizons, Journal of Biblical Integration in Business, Christian Scholars Review, Christian Business Review, Christian Business Academy Review, and others.

He is also a co-editor of the Christian Business Review.

He is the 2020 recipient of the Christian Business Faculty Association’s Sharon Johnson Award for significant contributions in scholarship that integrates the Christian faith with business principles and practice.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Martinez spent six years in the U.S. Navy operating nuclear power plants on surface ships.

Steve and Charlene are co-authors of the new book, The Peanut Butter Promise: Spreading Hope to Fulfill Your Purpose!

Steve is a seven-time author who was a radio personality before penning a one-of-a-kind, feel-good book called Leap of Faith: God Must Be a Packer Fan (Angel Press, 1996). The book sold 50,000 copies in less than a year. The literary work is historic in that it is the only book to ever combine a professional sports team and faith. The book was birthed while doing a faith-based radio show he co-hosted with former Packers player Ken Ruettgers.

For over twenty-five years, Steve has addressed thousands of people, doing hundreds of keynotes, seminars, webinars, workshops, and other presentations for global-leading brands that include: Kimberly-Clark, McDonalds, American Family Insurance, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, and SEMEX.

Charlene – One of Charlene’s greatest passions is doing their Peanut Butter Promise events, virtually or publicly. Along with Steve, she produced the highly rated documentary called Only 16: Tragedy of 2 Billys in 2017.

He’s best known as the first leader featured on the CBS network hit television series, Undercover Boss.

Larry and his team have been recognized with multiple awards, including Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Gulf Coast and the Top Workplaces Leadership Award by The Houston Chronicle.

After he retired from his business career, he pursued and received a masters in Biblical and Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
